About
Hooktheory is a suite of tools for learning music theory and songwriting in a hands-on way. Its TheoryTab database displays the chords and melodies of thousands of popular songs in a colour-coded format that makes harmony easy to see, and its interactive books teach theory by ear and by doing rather than through dry notation. The companion Hookpad tool lets users sketch chord progressions and melodies with built-in theory guidance, suggestions, and instant playback, so ideas can be tried and heard immediately. Together they connect the analysis of real songs to the act of writing your own. Hooktheory is aimed at songwriters, producers, and students who want to understand how music works and apply it. It runs in the web browser and uses a freemium model: the TheoryTab database is free to browse, while Hookpad and the interactive books are paid.
