StaffPad is a music notation and composition application built around pen and touch input, designed primarily for composers, arrangers, and screen-scoring work. Its central feature is handwriting recognition that converts handwritten notation into a cleanly typeset score. The app converts handwritten notes into engraved notation and assists by correcting stem directions, adding courtesy accidentals, and flagging incorrect beat counts per bar. Editing is done with pen and touch gestures to add articulations, hairpins, and symbols, transpose, copy/paste, and adjust durations. It supports audio staffs for recording or importing audio, Adaptive Audio and tempo mapping, automatic chord symbol generation, divisi staffs, sound presets, multiple score versions, and a mixer with effects like reverb, delay, EQ, chorus, and compression. Playback uses a core library of more than 55 instruments plus optional add-on sound libraries from developers such as Spitfire Audio, Orchestral Tools, and Cinesamples. It exports MP3, WAV, AAC, MIDI, MusicXML, and PDF, and pairs with the free StaffPad Reader digital music-stand app for synchronized performance. It is aimed at composers and notation users on iPad (with Apple Pencil) and pen/touch-capable Windows devices; it is not available on Android. StaffPad uses a one-time paid purchase through the App Store or Microsoft Store, with optional in-app purchases for additional sound libraries.
