About the piece
One hundred and twenty five short exercises devoted to passage playing, the rapid scale and arpeggio figuration that fills the classical and Romantic repertoire.
Each is brief enough to be used as daily warm-up material, and the set is designed to be worked through cumulatively rather than performed, which is the honest description of most of Czerny's enormous instructional output.
The composer
Carl Czerny
1791–1857
Carl Czerny was an Austrian composer, music educator, and pianist of Czech origin. His music spanned the late Classical and early Romantic eras. His vast musical production amounted to over a thousand works and his books of studies for the piano are still widely used in piano teaching. He was one of Ludwig van Beethoven's best-known pupils and would later become one of the main teachers of Franz Liszt.
