A concerto advertised on its title page as performed by the author, standard practice at a time when a printed score traded on the composer's reputation as a performer.
Steibelt is now remembered mainly for a humiliation. In 1800 he challenged Beethoven to a contest in Vienna. Beethoven took the cello part of a Steibelt quintet, set it upside down on the stand, picked out a theme from it with one finger and improvised on it so devastatingly that Steibelt left the room, and afterwards refused ever to be in Beethoven's company again.

Daniel Steibelt
1765–1823
Daniel Gottlieb Steibelt was a German pianist and composer. His main works were composed in Paris and in London, and he died in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He once challenged and lost to Ludwig van Beethoven in a piano duel.
