About the piece
Sicilienne, eleventh in the Album for the Young, cast in the lilting dotted rhythm of the siciliana, a pastoral dance form inherited from the Baroque.
Its swaying character is broken by a faster, more agitated middle section, teaching a young player to switch decisively between two contrasting moods within a single short piece.
