About the piece
Soldiers' March, the second piece in the Album for the Young. Its crisp dotted rhythms and firm chords teach a young player to produce a clear, decisive attack.
The military subject is characteristic of the collection, which draws on the ordinary imaginative furniture of a nineteenth century childhood: soldiers, horsemen, hunters, folk songs and figures from seasonal festivals.

Robert Schumann
1810–1856
Robert Schumann was a German composer, pianist, and music critic of the early Romantic era. He composed in all the main musical genres of the time, writing for solo piano, voice and piano, chamber groups, orchestra, choir and the opera. His works typify the spirit of the Romantic era in German music.
