About the piece

Little Piece, fifth in the Album for the Young, and among the plainest things Schumann ever published. Its melody is passed in fragments between the hands over a simple accompaniment. The apparent modesty is the point: a student at this level is being taught to shape a phrase across a handover between hands, a skill that will matter in far more difficult music later.
