About the piece
Flower Song, the piece that made Gustav Lange's name and one of the most widely sold parlour pieces of the nineteenth century.
Lange wrote several hundred such works, aimed squarely at the amateur market: melodically immediate, technically manageable, and printed with attractive covers to sell in music shops. It is easy to be condescending about this repertoire, but it was how most people in the period actually encountered music in their homes.
