Dussek's favorite sonata, op. 37 : originally composed for the harp, and dedicated to Lord Courtenay

A sonata originally written for the harp and published in versions playable on either instrument, a common practice at a time when the two shared much of their domestic repertoire. Dussek's wife Sophia Corri was a distinguished harpist and singer, and he wrote extensively for the harp on her account. The marriage ended badly: he fled England in 1799 to escape debts from a failed music publishing venture, abandoning both his wife and his business partner, her father.
