About the piece
The Revolutionary Etude, the twelfth and final piece of Op. 10, and the most famous study ever written. A torrent of left-hand figuration rages beneath defiant chords and octaves in the right.
The nickname and the story attached to it, that Chopin wrote it on learning that Warsaw had fallen to Russian forces in 1831, came from later commentators rather than from the composer. The dates make the account difficult to sustain, but the music's fury has kept the legend alive.

Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano. He has maintained worldwide renown as a leading composer of his era whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation".
