About the piece
The ninth of the Op. 10 etudes, a study in left-hand extension. The accompaniment requires the hand to stretch and contract continuously across wide intervals while staying supple and quiet.
Above it the right hand carries a restless, keening melody marked agitato, so the technical problem is doubled: the strain in the left must never be audible in the expression of the right.

Frédéric Chopin
