About the piece
The third and least often heard of Chopin's impromptus, composed in 1842 and dedicated to Countess Jenny de Caraman-Chimay, subtle and harmonically searching. Flowing filigree in both hands surrounds a darker, more inward central section.
It rewards close listening more readily than showy display, which is perhaps why it has stayed in the shadow of the famous Fantaisie-Impromptu.
