About the piece
Bittendes Kind, A Pleading Child, is the fourth piece in Schumann's Kinderszenen, composed in 1838. It is one of the briefest and most harmonically restless numbers in the set, ending on an unresolved chord that leads directly, without pause, into the following piece.
Its short, questioning phrases capture a child's insistence more vividly than any obvious melody could.
