About the piece

Kuriose Geschichte, A Curious Story, is the second piece in Schumann's Kinderszenen, composed in 1838. Its off-balance rhythms and sudden shifts of direction give it a storytelling quality, as if the music itself keeps changing its mind mid-sentence. It sits between the wondering opening piece and the chase of Hasche-Mann, adding a touch of mischief to the set's early pages.
