About the piece
Four mazurkas published in 1836, showing how far Chopin had taken the form beyond its village origins. He borrows the sound of folk practice, drone basses imitating bagpipes, sharpened fourths, the characteristic lean on the second or third beat, while writing music of increasing harmonic subtlety.
The closing B♭ minor mazurka is among the most substantial of the set, ending with a long, gradually dissolving coda.

Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano.
