A complete method·By a celebrity virtuoso·Also a piano manufacturer·Mid nineteenth century
About the piece
A complete instruction method by Henri Herz, one of the most commercially successful pianists of the mid nineteenth century, whose fame and earnings in the 1830s exceeded almost anyone's.
He was also a piano manufacturer, and after his firm nearly ruined him he rebuilt his fortune with a long touring expedition through the Americas. Schumann was scathing about his music, dismissing it as empty display, and posterity has agreed, though his instruments won a major prize in 1855.
