About the piece
The Nocturne in D♭ major, Op. 27 No. 2, published in 1837 and among the best loved of the whole series. Its melody repeatedly divides into two intertwining voices moving in thirds and sixths, a texture Chopin took directly from the operatic duets of Bellini, whose music he admired above almost all others.
Where its C♯ minor companion in the same opus is dark and turbulent, this one stays luminous throughout, unfolding over a wide, gently rocking left hand.
