About the piece
An early nocturne, written around 1827 when Chopin was still a teenager in Warsaw, and only published in 1855, after his death. A melancholy right-hand melody sings over a steady rocking accompaniment.
Even this early, the intimate, vocal style he would go on to perfect across the mature nocturnes is already clearly present.
