About the piece
One of Haydn's earliest surviving keyboard sonatas, probably written around 1760 or before, when he was earning a living in Vienna partly by teaching keyboard to private pupils.
Its four movements are all extremely short, and the whole sonata lasts only a few minutes. Pieces like this were working teaching material, and they remain useful for exactly that purpose today, offering genuine classical style at the very earliest stages of study.

Joseph Haydn
1732–1809
Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He was pivotal in the evolution of chamber music forms like the string quartet and piano trio. His contributions to musical form have led him to be called "Father of the Symphony", "Father of the String quartet" and "Father of Sonata form".
