About the piece
The tenth of Chopin's twenty four Preludes, over almost before it has begun. A rapid cascade tumbles down the keyboard and is answered each time by a brief, curtseying phrase, the pattern repeating and then simply stopping.
It is among the clearest examples of what Schumann meant when he described the preludes as sketches and ruins: a single gesture, presented complete, with nothing built on top of it.

Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano. He has maintained worldwide renown as a leading composer of his era whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation".
