Preludes pour piano

Twenty four preludes in two books, the first composed in 1909 and 1910 and the second between 1911 and 1913, among the greatest collections of piano music of the twentieth century. Debussy placed each piece's title not at the top but at the very end, in parentheses and preceded by a row of dots, so that a player would form an impression before being told what to call it. The images range from sunken cathedrals and windswept hills to a music-hall act and the footprints of snow.
