About the piece
Chopin's first published composition, written when he was about fifteen and issued in Warsaw in 1825. It carries the opus number 1 that he assigned himself, though he had written a good deal of music before it.
The style still shows the classical models he was trained on, closer to Hummel and Weber than to the composer he would become, but the fluency and the instinct for keyboard writing are already unmistakable.
The composer
Frédéric Chopin
1810–1849
Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano. He has maintained worldwide renown as a leading composer of his era whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation".
