About the piece
A transcription of Siegmund's love song from Wagner's Die Walkure, made when the Ring was new and overwhelmingly controversial.
Piano transcriptions were how most nineteenth century musicians came to know Wagner at all, since staged performances were rare and expensive. Liszt's Wagner transcriptions did more to spread the music than any number of productions.
