About the piece
Fifty studies representing the advanced end of Czerny's pedagogical output, aimed at players approaching genuine virtuoso technique rather than at students.
He published over eight hundred opus numbers, many of them study collections, working with a discipline that became legendary: he reportedly kept several works in progress simultaneously on different desks so that no moment of composing time was wasted.
The composer
Carl Czerny
1791–1857
Carl Czerny was an Austrian composer, music educator, and pianist of Czech origin. His music spanned the late Classical and early Romantic eras. His vast musical production amounted to over a thousand works and his books of studies for the piano are still widely used in piano teaching. He was one of Ludwig van Beethoven's best-known pupils and would later become one of the main teachers of Franz Liszt.
