About the piece
Three waltzes published posthumously in 1855 by Julian Fontana, Chopin's friend and copyist, who gathered unpublished manuscripts after the composer's death. Chopin had left instructions that his unpublished papers be burned.
They date from various points in his life and are simpler and less finished than the waltzes he chose to publish, which is precisely why they are interesting: they show the composer working before the polish was applied.
