Wald-Idyllen = Forest idyls, op. 19 : für Klavier

Forest Idylls, four pieces written during MacDowell's years in Germany, where he studied and worked from his teens into his late twenties before returning to America. The forest was a subject he returned to throughout his life, culminating in the Woodland Sketches a decade later. He eventually bought a New Hampshire farm whose woods surrounded the studio where he did most of his later composing, and which his widow turned into the MacDowell Colony, the artists' residency that still operates today.
