About the piece
Composed around 1830, when Chopin was twenty and still in Poland, and published only in 1868, long after his death. It is one of the most popular of the posthumous waltzes.
An urgent minor-key opening gives way to a lighter major section before a brilliant, rushing coda. Its directness and drive have made it a favorite of students moving toward the more demanding published waltzes.

Frédéric François Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the early Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano. He has maintained worldwide renown as a leading composer of his era whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation".
