About the piece
The last of the six pieces in the eighth book of Lyric Pieces, published in 1897 and written to mark Grieg's twenty fifth wedding anniversary with his wife Nina at Troldhaugen, the villa they built overlooking a fjord near Bergen.
The music works as a small scene: a wedding procession approaches from a distance, grows to full celebratory noise, gives way to a tender central section for the couple themselves, then passes by and fades away again.

Edvard Grieg
1843–1907
Edvard Hagerup Grieg was a Norwegian composer and pianist. He is widely considered one of the leading Romantic era composers, and his music is part of the standard classical repertoire worldwide. His use of Norwegian folk music in his own compositions brought the music of Norway to fame, as well as helping to develop a national identity, much as Jean Sibelius did in Finland and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia.
