About Hooktheory

Hooktheory is a suite of tools for learning music theory and songwriting in a hands-on way. Its TheoryTab database displays the chords and melodies of thousands of popular songs in a colour-coded format that makes harmony easy to see, and its interactive books teach theory by ear and by doing rather than through dry notation. The companion Hookpad tool lets users sketch chord progressions and melodies with built-in theory guidance, suggestions, and instant playback, so ideas can be tried and heard immediately. Together they connect the analysis of real songs to the act of writing your own. Hooktheory is aimed at songwriters, producers, and students who want to understand how music works and apply it. It runs in the web browser and uses a freemium model: the TheoryTab database is free to browse, while Hookpad and the interactive books are paid.

About Tenuto

Tenuto is a music theory training app developed by musictheory.net for iPhone and iPad. It packages the site's interactive exercises and reference calculators into a touch-based interface, letting users drill core theory concepts and compute musical structures offline without an internet connection. The app includes a collection of exercises (around two dozen) covering areas such as note identification, key signatures, note and interval construction, chord and scale recognition, as well as keyboard and fretboard identification and ear-training exercises. Each exercise can be customized to focus on specific problem areas, such as particular clefs, ledger lines, or double accidentals. A Challenge Mode adds a time or question limit so users can compete against their own high scores, and progress reports can be sent to a teacher. It also bundles six calculators for working out intervals, chords, scales, and related elements. Tenuto is aimed at music students, teachers, and self-learners who want to practice fundamentals. It runs on Apple iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) and is offered as a one-time paid app rather than a subscription.
