Three piano trios by a composer trained in Salzburg, where he studied with Leopold Mozart and Michael Haydn, placing him at the centre of the classical tradition.
Woelfl's career took him from Vienna to Paris and finally to London, where he was celebrated as a performer and where he died in 1812, reportedly in poverty and obscurity after some years of decline.
