5 Spanish Dances, Op.12

Published in 1876 and originally written for piano four hands, these five dances were the runaway success of Moszkowski's career, arranged for every conceivable combination and played in homes across Europe and America. He was Polish-German and had no particular connection to Spain, but Spanish colour was fashionable and he handled it with real flair. The dances made him wealthy and famous, though he died in poverty in Paris after his investments collapsed during the First World War.
