About the piece
Brahms's Lullaby, originally a song for voice and piano composed in 1868 and now known worldwide in countless instrumental arrangements. He wrote it for the birth of a son to Bertha Faber, a friend from his years conducting a women's choir in Vienna, and wove in a melodic echo of a waltz she used to sing.
Its simple, rocking melody has made it one of the most universally recognized tunes in Western music, performed as a genuine cradle song by parents who may never know its composer's name.

Johannes Brahms was a German composer, pianist, and conductor of the mid-Romantic period. His music features expressive counterpoint, freer dissonance, rhythmic vitality, and traditional forms.
