About the piece
The Arabesque is the second of Burgmuller's twenty five studies and by far the best known, often the first piece a young pianist learns that actually sounds impressive.
It drills rapid, even finger work in the right hand against crisp detached chords in the left, then reverses the roles. Its quick minor-key sparkle and satisfying flourish of an ending have kept it in the standard teaching repertoire for over a century and a half.

Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmüller
1806–1874
Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmüller, generally known as Friedrich Burgmuller was a German pianist and composer during the Romantic period. He is perhaps best known for his three collections of children's etudes for the piano, particularly his Op. 100 "25 Études faciles et progressives" for early intermediate students. The other two collections, for more advanced students, were Op. 105 and 109.
