About the piece

A concerto composed for Woelfl's own performances, in the classical mould he had inherited directly from his Salzburg teachers. His fourth concerto carried the nickname The Calm, and such descriptive titles were a common marketing device for concertos in London, where a busy concert life competed hard for audiences.
