Twelve waltzes publishable for either piano or harp and supplied with a tambourine accompaniment, a combination aimed squarely at fashionable domestic music-making.
Steibelt's wife was an accomplished tambourine player, and he wrote a considerable quantity of music featuring the instrument, which enjoyed a brief vogue in drawing rooms of the period.
The composer
Daniel Steibelt
1765–1823
Daniel Gottlieb Steibelt was a German pianist and composer. His main works were composed in Paris and in London, and he died in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He once challenged and lost to Ludwig van Beethoven in a piano duel.
